Fickle Landscapes
I’m finding more enjoyment in painting landscapes these days, as I have a different approach to painting than I’ve had in the past. Landscapes were challenging to me before, when I expected to spend several hours and multiple sittings on a single painting - this is not reasonable for landscapes as they are constantly changing with the shifting of clouds and the constant rotation of the earth around the sun. In one sitting, the weather can be warm and sunny, and the next, the fog could roll in over the distant hills. All of this made landscape painting very frustrating for an artist that expects her subject to remain still! However, my new approach is with a focus on exercise without judgment. This allows me to paint landscapes more freely, with less concern for the accuracy and more emphasis on the enjoyment of the process.
